The Ex-Files - Kris on growing up with a horse

I had a horse from the time I was five years old, and I used to ride him everywhere, though sometimes it got me in trouble. Once a friend from West Brownsville Elementary and I came across some abandoned tires and stuff. This was during World War II. when everything was supposed to be rationed, so we figured we'd better tell somebody. We decided to ride into town and find my friend's dad, who was a reporter for the Brownsville Herald. The trouble was, we thought it would be cool to ride on the crowded downtown sidewalks and into traffic. We were about a block from the paper when a woman who knew my family saw me and started screaming at us. Man, did we take off for our houses. I got grounded for about a month.

Kris Kristofferson was born in Brownsville and lived there until age eleven. His latest album. A Moment of Forever (Justice), was released in August. His latest film, John Sayles' Lone Star, will be in theaters in March.
